Is it okay to stay friends after breaking up?

  • #2
Of course not, after all, he has done to me. I won't let him be my friend.

There are instances that they can still be friends if they mutually agreed that it's better for the two of you to be friends rather than be a couple

But I think that is not possible because you will only think "only if" statements if you are friends with him.

It all depends on how you guys have broken up. For me, the most that I can give him is to be civil with him if we ever cross paths

If he cheated on you, I'm guessing that you don't have plans of being civil towards him?

CuddlyPac Actually, you can be still civil to an ex who cheated on you if there's no bitterness in your heart.

CuddlyPac you can just ignore him completely if that's the reason for the break up

  • #5
Maybe let it pass a couple of months or years before I can say that we can be friends

Even if the reason why you've broke up with the person is because of cheating?

I consider some of them as friends, but not sure if they feel the same towards me

I feel that there might be a few of them who would see you as a friend

But if he cheated on me, then there is no chance in hell that I would be friends or even be civil towards him

I guess you are one of those who can't forget and forgive.

  • #8
Nope, being friends means you forgive him and I don't think that is possible.

You don't have to forgive him, being friends also means being in good terms with each other.

How can you be in good terms with him if you did not forgive him?

  • #9
Yes, it could be possible if the relationship ended in a good way.

Correct, and of course you have to be in good terms with each other.

  • #10
Of course, that is possible to others, but not all.

Well, you are right about that since some doesn't deserve to be part of your life anymore.

I always made sure to stay away from any of them. Don't want to have awkward encounters with them

Why not? If you both ended it all, then there is no reason for you both not to be friends.

Unless there is still a hidden grudge between them.

No, I don't think it is advisable to stay friends after a break-up.

I agree, especially when having a new relationship. That will be an issue for sure.

As a personal rule, I try and avoid them but would try to be civil in case our paths would cross

I see nothing wrong about that as long as you two are not angry with each other.

So have you crossed paths with an ex ever since the two of you broke up?
